If you’re thinking of relocating to Fort Lauderdale, you may be planning a one-day visit to see the city for yourself. Maybe a move isn’t on the horizon, but your travels are bringing you to this popular city, either because of a cruise or because you’re flying in on your way to another Florida destination. Regardless of the reason, if you have just one day to spend in the city, here’s what you need to do to make the most out of your time.

Start at the Beach

Ft. Lauderdale’s famous beach definitely needs to be on your list, so consider starting there. That will ensure you get as much time as you want in our warm, inviting sunshine and increases your chances of finding the perfect shell before they get picked over by eager beachcombers. If you stay until lunch, head to the Wave Wall, which has several options for eating, before heading to the next stop on your visit.

Tour the Bonnet House

With its bright yellow walls complemented by blue doorways, the Bonnet House is an architectural marvel. Once home to Hugh Taylor Birch, this building now houses quite a few artifacts and archaeological finds from the region. It also sits on a former plantation, showing what life was like in Fort Lauderdale in a bygone generation.

Tour Hugh Taylor Birch State Park

Right across from Bonnet House is Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. This beautiful tropical oasis has a freshwater lagoon where you can fish, as well as ample hiking trails. Bring your swimsuit for a dip in the lagoon to cool off.

Tour a Museum

If you’re not into nature parks, Fort Lauderdale has a couple of museums you’ll love. The NSU Art Museum is one of the most popular. Here you can see over 6,000 art pieces spanning many different decades, including tribal art from Oceanic, African and Native American tribes. If you are traveling with children, Museum of Discovery and Science is always a popular choice. See mammoths, ride a realistic FA-18 simulator, or catch a show in Florida’s largest IMAX theater.

There’s much to see and do in and around Fort Lauderdale. It’s really not a one-day destination, but if all you have is one day, these are the must-see attractions. After you spend a day in this popular Florida destination, you just might find you want to make a permanent move to this oceanfront community. If a move is on the horizon, partner with a skilled For Lauderdale real estate agent to help you find the perfect home.
